January 24, 2020 – LWS Attorneys is pleased to announce that member Andrew J. Szygenda has been selected as one of America’s Top 100 High Stakes Litigators® in North Texas for 2020. Selection to America’s Top 100 High Stakes Litigators® is by invitation only and is reserved to identify the nation’s most exceptional trial attorneys in high value, high stakes legal matters. To be considered for selection, an attorney must have litigated a matter with at least $2,000,000 in alleged damages at stake or with the fate of a business worth at least $2,000,000 at stake and satisfy other criteria related to the attorneys’ professional experience, litigation experience, significant case results, representative high stakes matters, peer reputation, and community impact. Less than one-half percent (0.5%) of active attorneys in the United States receive this honor.
Mr. Szygenda has successfully served as lead counsel in numerous cases involving damage claims in excess of $2,000,000. For example, after more than 50 depositions and expert designations, he obtained summary judgment dismissing a $20-30 million lawsuit brought by insurers, homeowners, and a resort alleging that a client power line company started Texas’s “1148 Complex Fire” in Possum Kingdom, Texas. See Club Vista Dev. II, Inc. v. Oncor Elec. Delivery Co., 2014 Tex. App. LEXIS 9081 (Tex. App.–Dallas Aug. 15, 2014 pet. denied). He also favorably settled (subject to a confidentiality requirement) a client subcontractor’s eight-figure claim for non-payment for the mechanical construction of two gas processing facilities in south Texas. Still further, he has served as lead counsel in catastrophic injury cases involving negligence claims arising from energy-related operations where plaintiffs sought tens of millions of dollars.
